US coverage of the mobile phone is really very good, and most people should find that regardless of the company they signed they should be able to pick up at least one signal limited in most areas. Signal is generally higher in major cities than in more rural areas, but sometimes that’s not always the case; cities can have more transmission towers, but there are other factors involved in getting a good signal that being near a turn.
For example, being in a city surrounded by tall buildings or live at the bottom of a large hill can cause problems with the signal, despite being close to a tower signal. Usually though, no matter where you are in the country, you’ll be able to access a certain level of phone signal, except very remote rural areas. Although your Orange phone could be a strong signal in one area, a combined T-Mobile friends could have virtually none.
Normally, this is quite rare and not more than slightly annoying, but there’s nothing worse than signing a new contract phone to find the supplier you chose to use is not a good signal in your area and that you can make and receive calls outside or in certain parts of your home.
The best way to avoid this is to borrow a phone friend who is on the network you want to share and keep in the house for the day, much to move and make some calls to ensure that the signal is good. The other good thing to do before buying a new contract is to check a website to undertakings in a see if you can find their signal strength map, which should give you a good idea of the signal in your region – more allow you to search by post code for a fairly accurate reading.
Make sure you understand the difference between 2G and 3G signal, however. While 2G is readily available everywhere and allows you to do the basic stuff of the phone such as calls and texts, 3G is not always as easy to find, but can do much more, including e-mails and access Internet. When looking at the signal range of guides or do postcode searches, make sure you look both 2G and 3G signal for a better overview of what you can expect from your network.
